Some high-end vehicles have complex electronics system that require additional components to be used when a Tow-Pro Link is installed. Without the extra components, the vehicles will not correctly detect that a trailer is connected.
The vehicles that follow are known to require these extra components are listed here.
Required Parts
- 1 × diode or resistor protected relay, 10 A minimum — for example, Narva 12V Relay
- 1 × trailer socket with a reed switch — for example, Narva 7 Pin Trailer Socket or Narva 12 Pin Trailer Socket
- 1 × blade fuse holder
- 1 × blade fuse, from 2 A to 5 A rating
Install the components as follows
- Connect the orange wire of the Tow-Pro Link to Pin 87 of the relay.
- Connect the vehicle’s existing stop lamp wire to Pin 30 of the relay.
- Install the new trailer socket.
NOTE: This procedure is suitable for a normally-open (NO) reed switch. The reed switch is not polarity sensitive. - Connect one end of the reed switch in the trailer socket to Pin 85 of the relay.
- Connect the other end of the reed switch to chassis ground.
- Supply power to the relay as follows:
- Install a cable between the relay and the vehicle battery. Do not connect the cable to the vehicle battery at this time.
- Install a blade fuse holder in the cable as close to the vehicle battery as practical. Do not install the blade fuse at this time.
- Connect the end of the cable to the vehicle battery.
- Install a blade fuse rated from 2 A to 5 A into the blade fuse holder.
- Protect each of the cables, connections and components from water and damage.
- Test the Tow-Pro Link — do one of the steps that follow:
- Use a test light to test the Tow-Pro Link.
- Use a trailer to test the Tow-Pro Link — refer to the User Manual.
