How to change modes on a Tow-Pro Elite

To change modes between Everyday (proportional) mode and User Controlled mode, the trailer must be connected and the vehicle at a complete stop.

With the control knob set to zero and the brake pedal fully depressed, double-click the knob within one second, then release the brakes. After switching, adjust the control knob to suit your vehicle, trailer, and driving conditions.

The Tow-Pro Elite will always power up in the last mode used, provided the black power wire remains properly connected to the battery.

This information is applicable to the following products:

  • Tow-Pro Elite (EBRH-ACCV3, EBRH-ACCV3-NA)

Tow-Pro Elite Modes Explained

  • Everyday (proportional) mode: The brake controller automatically adjusts braking force based on the vehicle’s deceleration.
  • User controlled mode: The driver manually sets a fixed level of braking force, regardless of vehicle movement.

Before you switch modes

  • The trailer must be connected to the vehicle to change modes.
  • The vehicle must be at a complete stop before starting the process.
  • After switching, adjust the control knob to suit your specific vehicle, trailer and driving conditions.

How to switch between proportional and user-controlled modes

  1. Set the control knob to 0. Turn the knob counterclockwise until it stops at zero,
  2. Apply the vehicle brakes. Keep the brake pedal fully depressed.
  3. Double-click the knob. Push the knob twice within one second to toggle between modes.
  4. Release the vehicle brakes. The mode change is now complete.
  5. Once complete, set the control knob to an appropriate level for your towing setup.

Please note, every time the vehicle is started the Tow-Pro Elite will power up in the last mode selected, provided the black power wire remains properly connected to the battery.
